Bernard McAuley appointed Bako managing director

Ingredients supplier Bako has appointed Bernard McAuley as its managing director, as the company aims to expand across the UK and Ireland bakery and foodservice markets.

Bako Group Ltd is a supplier to the baker and foodservice industries, offering a range of ingredients, finished goods and ancillary products.

McAuley joins from Pilgrim’s (JBS), where he led operations for the company’s Irish business following its acquisition of Kerry Foods in 2021.

He began his career with Michelin, spending a decade in engineering and production roles before moving into the food sector with Kerry Group in 2016.

Speaking on his appointment, McAuley said: “Bako, also known as Finlay’s Food, combines both manufacturing and wholesale, a model that really differentiates us within the sector. It enables us to deliver greater value to customers, from artisan bakeries to large-scale food producers. I’m looking forward to leveraging best practices from my previous roles to support quality, service, and growth across the business.”

He added: “Bako Group Ltd has achieved remarkable success in Great Britain. My goal is to build on that momentum, drive growth in Ireland, and strengthen our partnerships across the wider group.”

BAKO Acquires Finlay’s Foods

BAKO Group Limited has announced its full acquisition of James A. S. Finlay Limited, trading as Finlay’s Foods, as of 3rd April 2024.

Founded in 1976, Finlay’s Foods has grown to be a leading name in the Irish bakery trade, employing approximately 60 at its purpose built site in Craigavon. As a manufacturer and distributor of ingredients to the bakery and general food industry, its customer base extends throughout Northern Ireland into the Republic of Ireland, as well as the wider UK, Europe and Asia.

Following the acquisition by BAKO, Finlay’s Foods will continue trading under its existing brand as part of BAKO Group.

National Doughnut Week 2021 with CSM Ingredients

Running from 10th – 18th July, this year marks the 30th anniversary of the National Doughnut Week which encourages bakers and cafes to sign up to the activity in order to raise lots of *dough* for a worthy cause.

To get involved in the fun and help raise lots of money for charity at the same time, businesses can register below to receive a branded POS kit. All money raised will go to The Children’s Trust, the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury.

Since launching in 1992, National Doughnut Week has raised a total of £984,256 for charitable causes, including £469,049.79 for The Children’s Trust.

For inspiration and encouragement here are a couple of the top doughnut trends that will be popular this July.

Oozing with Flavour – The classic glazed ring doughnut continues to be a popular treat for many, and today’s doughnut-lovers are after a step up to something a little more indulgent. Not only do they want a sweet topping to doughnuts, they also we want filled doughnuts filled. From Lotus Biscoff Loaded Doughnuts with a Toffee Sauce injection, to Chocolate Orange Doughnuts with a Chocolate Crembel filling, topped with Chocolate Orange Pieces, the possibilities when it comes to filled doughnuts are endless.

Belgosuc Boost for Honeybees

Of all the world’s creatures, the honeybee is one of the most resourceful. Honeybees gather their raw materials for life from far and wide and build a society that is remarkably effective as a production line of honey.

Bees need a varied and complex diet. They collect pollen and nectar, which provide an incredibly rich set of nutritional components. They receive carbohydrates from the nectar they collect and the honey they subsequently make. They receive protein from pollen.

Where possible staff are once again working remotely and are contactable by email and/or mobile as per government guidelines. We are also maintaining our presence on-site in order to continue to despatch your orders to you. Home Baker Fundraiser Supported by Finlay Foods

We received a call last Friday from a young man called Clarke Halliday from Lurgan, Co. Armagh.

Clarke is a baker by trade having earned it in his uncle’s bakery, The Bread Basket, which was located on Queen Street, Lurgan. Sadly, the bakery is long gone now, but Clarke still recalls the Finlay’s truck pulling up every week without fail and helping the boys offload their goods up two flights of stairs.

With recent events Clarke has been putting his own time to good use and started baking for his local elderly neighbours. He also noticed there was a lot more “footfall” on his doorstep recently, with people heading out for their daily exercise.

And so the idea came to him to set up a home bakery with all funds going to the NHS to support front line workers, whilst catering for his elderly neighbours at the same time with freshly baked goods. Please be assured that Clarke will be adhering to all guidelines in relation to Health & Safety and Social Distancing.

Finlay Foods are thrilled to be able to provide Clarke with various bakery supplies required to support him in this fantastic effort. We are all in awe of the work being done by front line workers to keep us safe and well; and as a community the well being of our elderly neighbours at this lonely and often scary time is a priority.

We wish Clarke all the best in his endeavours and look forward to hearing about the success of his fundraising efforts!
